Project Moon is a women empowerment initiative of PunarnavaAyurveda Trust and Vaidyagrama Community Trust, to manufacture eco-friendly sanitary sads which are naturally made using Wood Pulp as the main ingredient, along with SAP sheet, net sheet, non woven cloth and biodegradable plastic as the bottom layer.
We call this endeavor Project Moon since the Moon represents powerful feminine energy as well as the synchronous relationship between the menstrual cycle and lunar rhythm.
The idea of manufacturing sanitary pads in-house came when during a health talk in the village, the village women were reluctant to discuss about their gynaecological problems to Ayurveda doctors. We found that there was an issue with hygiene as the village women did not have the resources to buy sanitary pads and due to water scarcity they couldnt wash the menstrual cloth properly.
This problem in the community, led to the idea of Project Moon, a women empowerment project for the women by the women. We have 3 women working in the project, and the pads are supplied free to 150 girls in Pichanur Government Higher Secondonary school.
The “Vaidya” brand Sanitary pads come with a size of 240mmx 80mm ( Large size) and are packed 7 each in one packet ( packed in brown paper cover), each packet costing Rs 50/-
How we make them? Geetha explains the manufacturing process
The pads are made out of wood pulp sheet, sap sheet, non woven cloth as the top layer and degradable plastic as the bottom layer. The layers are cut and pressed using the machine.
The proceeds of sale of sanitary pads are used for the welfare of the women in the villages and for higher education of meritorious girls from villages.
We invite you to join us in this movement of women empowerment.
Our Goal is to serve girls in many such high schools in the Rural Area of Coimbatore.
We seek your help to raise money for providing this much needed support for the young girls, we can serve girls in many more government high schools.
